Geoff Alpert’s New Album Open Your Heart Will Make You Fall In Love With The Trombone Again

Geoff Alpert’s new album Open Your Heart is one for the ages. It isn’t your average smooth jazz album. It’s a smooth jazz album that has a contemporary vibe, funky tunes, and of course it has Geoff Alpert himself showing off his talent with the trombone! Really making his music stand out of the crowd, and drawing that crowd in!

Although the album is rooted in smooth jazz, Alpert utilizes many different styles, which results in a dynamic and engaging musical fusion.  The album is accessible to many and will appeal to those who love smooth jazz as well as those who love funk, pop and many other styles.  The album features the solo trombone, which is also a refreshing change from the more conventional solo instruments of smooth jazz.

Dave Bargeron and Geoff Alpert Bring Trombones Back to Popular Music

Trombones have long been under-utilized in music today. However, with dedicated players like Geoff Alpert and Dave Bargeron becoming more well known, the trombone may yet come back to the foreground. Geoff Alpert’s smooth jazz music has come from a long path of struggle. He lost his wife to cancer in 2002 after a long hiatus from music and, after this horrible event, found his way back to the musical community. The support he received from Darryl Williams and Gail Johnson allowed him to output his emotion and passion into smooth jazz music. He blended this with his love for the martial art Ken-Ka-Kung Fu and found a truly inspired fusion in his music.

The incredible way that Geoff works smooth jazz into R&B, pop, latin and funk grooves is remarkable and that he does this all with the trombone in the forefront of the sound is even more impressive. If you haven’t yet, you can listen to the album on iTunes, CD Baby  and Amazon.
